the reason i get behind with posting these pictures is that i choose to shoot them with the lady contax. for those of you who are new and don't know who the lady contax is... let me tell you! she's a beautiful piece of photo equipment that allows me complete manual control and she only takes film. so i've got to finish a roll before i can get it developed and then i've got to wait for it to be developed. thus the longer turn around time (longer than the instant digital variety). anyway, this project is quickly becoming one of my favorites.
fruits and veggies compared to my growing baby:
week 14: baby was the size of a lemon. a LEMON! yes! so excited about that one.

week 15: baby was the size of an apple. about 4" in length. an APPLE for crying out loud. an apple in my belly. :)

and now for this week: week 16. can you believe that i'm 4 months along already? so crazy, i know! baby is a bit longer. about .5" longer to be exact. they're comparing baby at this stage to an avocado.

i know... i know... this dress hides the belly well. but trust me. it's protruding out there under the beautiful folds of green fabric (dress from anthropology).
this is really a fun time. depending on what i wear, i can look quite pregnant. other outfits-not so much. but well, i feel it every day. baby is just hanging out with me, loving all of my activities of choice. haha. anyway, if you're curious where i'm getting the comparisons of fruit to the growth of my baby- my information source is baby center. i get an email update each week letting me know the progress and growth that is typical for a baby at my stage in the pregnancy. i am also part of the lamaze weekly email. and i try to check out other information on birth and pregnancy as it becomes available to me. if any of you have any suggestions in this department- i'd love to hear them! what have you done fun to document and track and educate yourself during your pregnancies?
Carolee, your pictures are, creative, interesting, fun, intriguing, inventive, and cute!! love it!
ReplyDeleteI love it!!!!! I wish I had done this during my pregnancy! I think I only got to a papaya at 29 weeks when he was born, but it sure would have been cute! I regret not taking more belly photos along the way. I found myself all the sudden without a belly (I had just entered the 3rd trimester) and very few pictures. Way to go, Carolee, and congrats! You're gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteA few things....
ReplyDelete1. you have the cutest dresses! will you wear a new one each week?
2. the coordinated colors of fruits with your dresses and accessories is truly artful!
3. your photos are gorgeous!
4. being pregnant is the best!
5. Oh how I would LOVE to shoot a roll on a contax.
6. Alisha suggested that we all get together for lunch one afternoon. I say YES to that!
Are you in?
I can't get over how much I love the way your documenting your sweet baby's growth! :) Is it okay if I snatch this idea for the next time we get pregnant with another little one? I know the photos will be nothing near yours, but i adore the idea :)
ReplyDelete"an apple in my belly :)" LOVE.IT.
You're so cute Carolee. How do you always have a cute dress to match the fruit? :)
ReplyDeletethis is such an adorable idea, i love it!!! you look great!

I just visited Clothed Much and saw your photography and loved it! I'm studying over here at BYU-I and I'm an art student and you look so familiar, but I'm sure just a lot of the photog. teachers talked about you or I've seen photos of you from other students. Just thought I'd stop by and say hello! lovely blog & congrats on the baby!
ReplyDeleteThis is a faaaaaantastic idea, it's totally blowing my mind! You're darling and brilliant and have mad style.
ReplyDeletep.s. love your photos.
i love this idea and the photos are beautiful. i have heard the produce thing before but never seen it done this way! so pretty!
ReplyDeleteit's kind of silly replying through these comments, but yes i'm still here next semester is my last semester thank goodness! and i'm just an integrated studio arts major, i like it all! i love photography, but i just opened an etsy store mainly focusing on charcoal portraits...so i like drawing too! :)
ReplyDeleteYour dresses are so SO adorable. I have been looking for some longer (and by longer, I mean at least to my knees) and its proving to be difficult. Where did you get yours?!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking we must be due around the same time! My date is july 31st and I'm totally addicted to my weekly babycenter emails. I love how you documented the fruit comparisons! I've been feeling so not-photogenic and have yet to even take a bump picture... Maybe I need to get on that :) (my family is complaining...)
ReplyDeletethanks everyone for the sweet sweet comments! I have loved every one of them. to answer some of your questions:
ReplyDeletemost of my dresses i get second hand. i find them at vintage shops or are gifted them (or on the rare occasion that i actually have a tiny bit of money to spend on clothes- i buy them new. anthropology and br are some of my favorite places) the yellow dress was found at Decades (a vintage shop in salt lake city) the blue striped dress was actually given to me by my sister-in-law. she thrifted it (and it was for a much larger lady). so she took in the sides and then ended up giving it to me later. i've loooooooved it ever since! oh and regarding the length. i'm a tad vertically challenged... so it's not always a hard thing for me to find dresses that go a bit longer. :)
This project is absolutely adorable and the pictures and styling are wonderful!
ReplyDeleteSuch a creative way to document your pregnancy! Love this, and love your space here!
ReplyDeleteJust found this through A Cup of Jo - and it's super exciting, as apparently we have almost the exact same due date. As your photos are so beautiful, I'll be sure to check in each week to see how we're both doing.
ReplyDeleteThis is so cute!!! In a couple of weeks you will be holding a watermelon!
ReplyDeleteYou are adorable! I love this series!

Bonjour, I just found you via a cup of jo. I love your pregnant photo project and look forward to following your growing belly and corresponding fruit! Kisses from a Parisian mama xx
ReplyDeleteI just came across your blog and I'm in love! Your pregnant belly/fruit project is so creative. At 38 weeks myself, I so regret not thinking of it too! Now that I'm in home stretch I can't tell you how important it is to document every growing step. It's a beautiful journey and I look forward to following along with yours!
ReplyDeleteI love the blueberry and apple shots the best...such lovely colors. You will treasure these photos for the rest of your life. Husband always asks what "food I'm up to" every week. We're a rutabaga now!
ReplyDeleteVery creative idea! Your photos are beautiful! Thank you for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI must know... where did you obtain that lovely green dress in the last photo? :)
ReplyDeleteYour veggie and fruit idea is ingenious. And you have a ridiculously adorable baby belly.
This is such a wonderful and amazing idea! I just love it! Oh gosh, what a great way to document your pregnancy and have some lovely pictures to look back on
ReplyDelete:)
Your pictures are beautiful! I found your site through Clothed Much! Our son will be 1 next month! Babies are wonderful :) thanks for posting such lovely pictures to admire! I wish I had taken a photography class when I was at BYU but I never got the chance.
ReplyDeleteThese are amazing! I've always thought the baby center fruit analogies were a little silly, but these illustrations really bring it to life and they are gorgeous! The lemon is absolutely my favorite so far (but then yellow is my favorite color, so I may be biased)! I can't wait to see future photos.
ReplyDeleteWhat a clever project and such beautiful photos! I can't wait to see how this progresses.
ReplyDeleteso cute!
ReplyDeleteI featured this post in my weekly surf today.
ReplyDeletethanks for the inspiration.
happy wednesday!
My mom linked me to your blog since I'm as far along as you. You are adorable. I'm jealous that you have a rounded belly. It doesn't matter what I wear, I just don't have the rounded part yet. Maybe in a few more weeks.
ReplyDeleteVery creative pictures. Thank you for posting.
