travel thursday: a door in tuscany
it was a sunday afternoon
we rented bikes, my brother and i
and rode through the hills of tuscany.
we took a wrong turn
and found ourselves on a path longer than our intended.
a rainstorm came and drenched us,
causing us to find shelter in a small church
in a remote italian village.
it was empty, for the most part
and being the sabbath, we prayed.
the rains stopped and we once more took to our bikes
riding along the countryside.
we found ourselves in the center of san gimignano
eating pizza and watching the locals
breathing in the sites.
italy is so welcoming, like an open door.

travel thursday: the colosseum
if you've ever been to rome you know...
that there are italian men dressed outside of the colosseum
offering to pose for photos
only to charge you for it.
that busy roads weave in and out of roman ruins.
that amazing gelato is on every corner,
that nothing beats a fresh italian margarita pizza,
and that whatever happens in rome
doesn't really stay in rome...
if you've been there it stays with you forever.

travel thursday: lemon plant
the monastery was cold at night
the hallways long
bikes for rent
tuscan hills
the smells so fragrant
the train from rome was crowded
and arriving in certaldo
we trusted that our ride would be there
to take us to the hostel
and then we slept
